Proper context is mandatory for accurately understanding biblical passages. Jesus interacted primarily with other Jews in a Second Temple Period context. He was well acquainted with the customs, traditions, teachings, and extra-biblical literature of that time. This work by Strack and Billerbeck is a wonderful tool for gaining contextual insight into scripture when used properly. I'm looking forward to getting it in English.
