      Sunday School

This week the kids learned that God delivered His people.

      Summary

      • Moses and Aaron told Pharoah to let the Israelites go free, but Pharaoh refused.
      • God sent plagues to judge Egypt.
      • God spared Israel from the tenth plague because they spread the blood of spotless lambs on their doorposts.
      • All the firstborn sons in Egypt died, so Pharaoh sent the Israelites away.

      Christ connection

By His grace, God spared the Israelites from judgment by requiring the blood of a lamb. Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. His death was the ultimate sacrifice, and those who trust in Jesus are under His saving blood and will be passed over in the final judgment.

        Sunday School

This week the kids learned about about when God called Moses.

        Summary

        • The Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians.
        • Pharaoh ordered the Israelites’ baby sons to be killed, but God protected Moses.
        • Moses fled Egypt after killing an Egyptian for beating an Israelite.
        • God called Moses to lead his people to freedom.

        Christ connection

God saved Moses’ life and called him to rescue God’s people from slavery. The calling of Moses points to a greater calling and rescue–the call of Jesus to come to earth to save God’s people. Jesus gave up His life to save us from slavery to sin.

          Summary

          • God had blessed Job with wealth and a large family, and Job trusted God.
          • Sata claimed Job had faith only because of God’s blessings to him.
          • God allowed Satan to take Job’s blessings and health.

          Christ connection

Job learned that God is all-powerful, sovereign, and good. When we face suffering, we can hope in God. God sent Jesus, the only truly innocent One, to suffer and die so that everyone who trusts in HIm can have forgiveness and eternal life.

This week the kids learned that God had a plan for Joseph.

            Summary

            • Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son, but Joseph’s brothers hated him.
            • Joseph’s brothers sold Joseph into slavery.
            • God used Joseph’s suffering to eventually place Joseph in a position of power in Egypt.
            • Joseph saved his family from famine and forgave his brothers for harming him.

            Christ connection

God had a plan for Joseph’s life. He allowed Joseph to suffer in order to rescue a whole nation. God planned for Jesus to suffer so that many–people from all nations–would be saved.

              Sunday School

This week the kids learned about God changing Jacob.

              Summary

              • Jacob stole his brother’s blessing and fled from him.
              • Twenty years later, Jacob’s family grew and Jacob decided to go home.
              • On the way, Jacob wrestled with a man who crippled Jacob’s hip. Then he blessed Jacob and changed his name to Israel.

              Christ connection

God changed Jacob’s life and gave him a new name, Israel. Jesus came so that we might have a changed life, forgiven of sin. Jesus’ death and resurrection provided sinful people the way to be adopted into God’s family. When we trust in Jesus, we also receive a new name–children of God.

                Sunday School

This week the kids learned that God provided Isaac.

                Summary

                • After many years, God kept His promise and gave Abraham a son, Isaac.
                • God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.
                • Abraham had faith; even if Isaac died, God could raise him from the dead to keep His promise.
                • God provided a ram for the sacrifice to keep Isaac safe.

                Christ connection

Abraham showed his love for God by being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac. God provided a ram instead. This is how God showed His love for us: He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross so that we could have eternal life through Him.

                  Worship Service

This Sunday we look at the temptation of Jesus in Mark 1:12-13. Mark's account is very brief, leaving us to wonder what happened when Jesus was tempted? His account highlights the fact that spiritual conflict is inevitable for those who follow Jesus. We digress into the other accounts and look at how Jesus was tempted by Satan and some ways that he experienced in life.

This week the kids learned about when God made a covenant with Abraham.

                  Summary

                  • God chose a man named Abram to use in His plan.
                  • God promised Abram to make his family a great nation and bless the whole world through his family line.
                  • God changed his name to Abraham and promised a family more numerous than the stars.

                  Christ connection

God promised to bless all the world through Abraham. God sent Jesus from His home in heaven to be born on earth into Abraham’s family. Through Jesus, all the nations of the earth are blessed because Jesus saves people from their sins.

                    Worship Service

This Sunday we looked into the baptism of Jesus in Mark 1:9-11. If people were being called to repentance and seeking the forgiveness of sins, why did Jesus need to be baptized? He was without sin as our Savior. We dove into this as well as the unbelievable packed words of God the Father at Jesus' baptism.

                    Sunday School

This week the kids learned about people rebelling against God.

                    Summary

                    • God commanded people to fill the earth and glorify Him.
                    • People decided to settle in one place and build a tall tower to glorify themselves.
                    • God confused their language so they were forced to stop building and obey God by scattering around the earth.

                    Christ connection

People wanted glory for themselves instead of God. They ignored God’s plan, so God confused their language and scattered them all over the earth. One day, Jesus will gather together all of God’s people–from every tribe and language–and they will worship Him together.

                    Key Passage

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

                    Romans 3:23

                    Big picture question

What does it mean to sin? To sin is to think, speak, or behave in any way that goes against God and His commands.

This week the kids learned that God spared Noah.

                      Summary

                      • Sin spread and people grew so wicked that they only thought about evil.
                      • God planned to destroy the earth with a flood to judge sin.
                      • God told Noah to build an ark and fill it with animals.
                      • The flood covered the world, but Noah and his family were saved from the flood.

                      Christ connection

God rescued Noah and his family from the flood. The story of Noah points ahead to a greater rescue. God’s Son, Jesus–the only perfectly righteous One–came to take the punishment for our sin. By trusting in Him, we are saved from the punishment our sin deserves.
