P. R. Miller
Hopeland United Methodist Church
- This is one of the most suspicious "translations" to come out in a very, very long time. It appears to be named after an angel named "Passion" that Brian saw a church meeting and confirmed this as his ministry. Simmons calls it a "translation," so I think it needs to be treated like one. So, with that in mind, I'm not necessarily against divine visions. But take for example John 11:35, where "Jesus wept." The Passion "translation" changes this to "Then tears streamed down Jesus' face." That's triple the number of words. It might be what happened, but can we at least acknowledge that this kind of extreme elaboration of doubling the length of some passages (like Simmons does throughout the Psalms) seems like an odd thing for the Holy Spirit to inspire for a translation. Please, please, please be careful with this. There are red flags all over.
- The USB is 2.0
- Even without Narnia, this is MORE than worth it. The Collected Letters alone comprise over 3,000 pages, and if they are indexed, this makes Logos the single greatest tool of Lewis study. Been waiting a LONG time for this.
- Holy crow! That is an insane amount of detail, especially given the volume of just the letters alone. Are the individual titles indexed by date as well? For example: Can I search for particular letters written during the time period surrounding when Perelandra was written?
- Each resource will have a publication date. It may not coincide with the date it was originally authored, but you should be able to figure that out pretty easily. Then, assuming we know when the letters were written and mark them up by date, you could do a search for all letters within a particular timeframe. - Mr. Miller is a very happy man!
- I remember putting my bid in on this collection back when Mitt Romney was running for president, as a sophomore in college. See as I am in my first year of master's work, I'm pretty disappointed that this and the Watchtower Collection are just simply not being bid on. There is a third-generation Mormon family that live five doors down the street with me and know I am a student. I would seriously, seriously love to have reference works in my library that would allow me to discuss things historically and intelligently.
