The list that Paul makes here about the characteristics of the unrighteous, it is a surprise to see disobedient to parents in the middle. Not to mention being followed up by saying the these actions are deserving of death. Paul places a high regard for the parents in a home to be the voice of God to their children. (Oh, how we as a culture have placed that responsibility on anyone but ourselves.) And the disobedience of the children is a direct disobedience to God. A very powerful call to be all the more diligent in our calling as parents to shepherd our children lest we be guilty of disobedience for not doing so.
