doulos = slave?!
The comment may explain why the LEB translator choose this translation, but it seems misguided - probably depending on the same bad choice in the HCSB or an argumentative book by John MacArthur. The point is that slave as an Englkish word is normally not associated with or defined relating to "total commitment and devotion", but associated with brutal force, unrightful claims, exploitation, unlawful and dishumanizing treatment, forced submission and obedience, humiliation, negation of basic human rights and dignity, i.e. the trampling into the dust of the "imago dei". Normally nothing resembling commitment or devotion is associated with it, only aspects of the "total" up to the point of giving up one's own personality may overlap in a certain, not really good sense. The HCSB editors by the way changed from slave to servant in the CSB
