Loose Allusion to Jesus' Teaching
Holman Bible Commentary suggests what is a somewhat less firm allusion than the eight suggested here by William Varner linking James 1:22 with Matthew 7:20-24 in respect to being not only a hearer of the Word but also a doer of the Word.
