• It's so encouraging to know that the God of creation knows me so well, and cares so for my soul as to use the writings of a woman who chronicled every word her husband spoke to speak straight to my heart, thus using the dead man's voice to speak encouragement into my heart at the very spot of discouragement. "When the darkness of dismay comes..." (3/15 devotion from My Utmost)
    1. You will not read a finer devotion than today's - 12/23 - Powerful!
      1. I find that Mr. Chambers writes above my head. I suppose that is why I find his writings, (his theology), so fascinating. He has great insight, though sometimes he does lose me.

I love Oswald Chambers. But you're right, He is deeeeep! Cut from a similar cloth as C.S. Lewis et al.. in fact, come to think of it, many of the old saints were really deep, I'm not sure "deep" is the right word to use, but it brings the point home. They were pure in Scripture and Doctrine and their lives reflected it in both humility and power! I think that's why they are so beloved. Just think about the power in Charles Spurgeons' sermons, I (can't confirm), but I heard that the man didn't even use a mic! The closest we come to their company in modern times is A.W. Tozer (see his book the Crucified life), Derek Prince et al... Oh how we need that old time "religion!" Please don't misunderstand, I'm not talking about "legalism" but in trying to avoid "phariseeism" many modern Churches have gone to the liberal extreme and we've lost a sense of purity, dignity, if I may, reverence. Lately, I'm finding myself going back more and more to the good old hymns, there is an authenticity and potency in those lyrics. Lord, please bring Revival to these lands! May we not conform to the world, but to Your Word. We don't have to compromise the gospel to reach the lost. All we need is to preach the pure Christ-centered Doctrine of the cross. You said, "If I be lifted up, *I* will draw all men to myself." May we lift Jesus up in our personal lives, homes, Churches and beyond. And help us abandon all to You! Praise You Lord.
        2. 1 Cor 2:10 KJV- But GOD hath revealed them unto us by HIS SPIRIT: for the SPIRIT searcheth all things yea, the deep things of GOD. This shows why a lot of the early writers were so deep and powerful; they didn't come with man's wisdom, " but in demonstration of the SPIRIT and of power: We need what they had and what the HOLY SPIRIT is pressing on our hearts today: Galatians 2:20 - TPT- "My old identity has been co-crucified with Messiah and no longer lives; for the nails of HIS cross crucified me with him. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me - we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the SON of GOD, who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, and dispenses his life into mine! How many of us are actually willing to lose what we call our life for HIS SAKE? The old hymns are good, but we need people willing to "present their body a living sacrifice, HOLY, and acceptable unto GOD," just the early church. Here's a hymn for you " let us all go back to the old landmark"
        3. Romans 12:1-2 Great stuff. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'll have to look up the hymn. We still sing the hymns where I pastor.
