Type “leadership” in the search box for books on Amazon and you’ll find 101,649 titles. I’ve read lots of them. You have too. But leadership doesn’t come from a book any more than a masterpiece is created from a paint by number kit. Books and seminars (as much as I like them) don’t produce leaders. People produce leaders. My name is Randy O’Brien and I am a people developer for the 21st Century Church. With one foot in the Church and the other in the University, I am uniquely called and gifted to develop leaders within diverse organiza tions and settings. As a pastor for 30 years I’ve had amazing seasons where people and ministries flourished effortlessly under my leadership. I’ve also given my all only to experience the agony of defeat on more than one occasion. I’ve seen a lot and I’ve learned a lot about how people grow and advance the kingdom through good times and bad. A mentor by nature and practice, I come alongside to encourage, shape, and direct leaders for significant impact. On the journey we laugh a lot and share life together. As a teacher in the University classroom I instill a discipline of curiosity. People learn when they can put it together for themselves. They learn and grow as they face new questions and discover resources and solutions they haven’t yet explored. I love big ideas, but I specialize in the practice of ministry rather than theory. I build leaders all around me. I like to think that I’m making a difference in their lives and through them making a significant impact in the world through the Church. If success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration I want to end the day arm in arm with other leaders - sweat dripping from foreheads and bodies aching from hard work, yet experiencing the unquenchable satisfaction that it’s worth it all. People transform. Organizations grow. The Kingdom advances. We are doing what God has made us to do.
