A Rebellious Heart
Just like the people of Judah, it can be easy to fall into a "religious rut". To follow procedure and rules rather than capture the heart of our Lord. Instead of serving from a place of love for Him and His ways we choose to rest on "fire insurance", only doing the bare minimum.
This reminds me of the portion of scripture in Mark 7. The people, led by the scribes and Pharisees had begun to focus on rules and tradition so much that they created rules that broke the commandments of God (v9-13). God wants our hearts, He wants a relationship with us. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He gave us the choice to accept His forgiveness. To exchange our hearts of stone for new hearts (Eze 36:26-27). Thank you, Jesus!
