I was brought low and He helped me... | Fui llevado abajo y Él me ayudó...
"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe." (Proverbs 18:10)
Psalm 91 is not the only place that we find a description of the Lord's protective hand in the life of the faithful. There are many such passages that provide assurance of the Lord's protection in time of trouble. As Christians, our righteousness and access to this strong tower does not rely on works of the law; but, consists of the righteousness of Christ imputed or assigned to us through faith in Him. (Romans 3:21-22, Philippians 3:9)
Today's verses: Psalm 121, Psalm 116:1-8
The Lord is our keeper and deliverer
Psalm 121
"I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence comes my help. My help comes from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer your foot to be moved: He that keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night, The LORD shall preserve you from all evil: He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even for evermore."
Like the faithful one that made the Lord his "habitation" in Psalm 91:9, the psalmist here has made the Lord his "heart home" as well. He looks expectantly to the hills for the Lord to come to his aid. He tells us that our Creator is awake and watching us; and will keep us both day and night, and protect us from all evil. His focus is on things above; and his hope is in the Lord.
I was brought low and He helped me...
Psalm 116:1-8
"I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live.
"The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell got hold on me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then call I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech you, deliver my soul. Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The LORD preserves the simple: I was brought low, and He helped me. Return to thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling."
What a wonderful psalm revealing the watch care that the Lord has over us. He hears our cries, helps us, and preserves us. Our soul can be at rest; because He is bountifully good to us.
As the scientists, politicians, and those around us scratch their heads and scurry about, looking this way and that for a way out of the Covid-19 health crisis and its economic fallout: and, the medical profession cannot even tell us when or if a vaccine will be available or if it will even offer lasting protection... our only true refuge and safety is in the Lord. It is to Him that we lift our eyes up to for help. He is our compassionate and faithful Creator... our strong tower and true safe place.
"Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy; to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD: He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in You." (Psalm 33:18-22)

Fui llevado abajo y Él me ayudó...
Salmo 116:1-8
(Salmo 33:18-22)
