The Better Perspective
“Our Citizenship is in heaven.”
Philippians 3:20
When I travel internationally, I am always interested in learning how citizens of other countries view current world events. The different perspectives never fail to broaden my thinking. I am always glad I considered another point of view.
Similarly, all of us can choose to view every situation in life from one of two very different perspectives: as a citizen of heaven, or as a citizen of this world. The heavenly perspective focuses on the unseen realities of God’s presence, power, and sovereignty. The worldly perspective focuses on the seen and the tangible, making possibilities—and hope—limited. God wants us to relinquish our worldly perspective and refocus with a heavenly one.
Changing our perspective isn’t always easy. It takes practice to change your default mind-set. But we can start by spending time in God’s Word every day. Meditate on the truth it contains rather than on your current circumstances. Immerse your mind and memorize verses so you can quickly recall His truths during difficult moments and challenging seasons.
Jesus has freed you, has given you His Holy Spirit, and offers all the wisdom of Scripture to keep you grounded in the perspective of your eternal home. Unshakeable
