1 Corinthians 16:13 (AV) — 13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
When you pray, do you give instructions or report for duty? --Anon
We need men of steel in our era. Men who do not follow every whiff of passion or pleasure, but are deliberate; recognizing that every step of life creates ripples in an unseen realm.
We need men who will lace up their boots and dig in their heels. Men's whose strength isn't measured by who they can beat up or how well they can shoot but is defined by the integrity of their lives and their oft ascent to the throne of God.
We need men who don't act like boys but spiritual warriors. They recognize that wars aren't won by sheer strength alone, but when God's cause is at stake.
We need men who will praise. They do not worship to appear spiritual, but praise to enter the spiritual.
Psalm 100:1 (AV) — 1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
God commands it of us. Through the Psalmist, he tells us, "Make a joyful noise," and is the equivalent, "To shout." It's a war cry, as one writer put it, "the Hebrew verb is the same as that of the shouting of the Israelites at the capture of Jericho, (Joshua 6:20). This psalm takes the worshiper into the realm of spiritual warfare."
Why do we need a war cry? Because we are at war.
1 Peter 2:11 (AV) — 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
We cannot defeat our enemy, the flesh, that old wicked, treasonous self by our self-will. We need something bigger than us, someONE bigger...Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 2:18 (AV) — 18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
We don't use the word succour in our day. Mounce's Dictionary defines it as "to run to the aid of those who cry for help." We are not in this battle alone. We need to shout the war cry to our Saviour, who will not leave us defenseless in battle. Praise is powerful because it declares we are not in this battle alone: God is for us.
