Matthew 16:19

What are you doing with your keys?

The Keys of the Kingdom

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Through your relationship with Jesus Christ, you have access to the Father. This is the power of the Keys of the Kingdom; access to the salvation power of God. Peter used this power in mighty ways during his life, especially for a humble fisherman. Peter preached his first sermon and over three thousand experienced the salvation power of God on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:41. Peter healed a lame man in Acts 3:6 who then joined him in the temple to celebrate the salvation power of God.

What we see consistently in the lives of Peter and the Apostles was a strong reliance on the salvation power of God, just like Jesus revealed throughout His incarnation. Christians today have the same access to God that Peter and the apostles had two thousand years ago.

The keys to the kingdom still exist, and we still hold those marvelous keys. We do not need any intermediate help to access God. We no longer have to go through a ritual or through a priest. We have access through Jesus Christ alone, our great mediator. We have the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven in the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Praise the Lord! We have access to the peace which surpasses all understanding, as seen in Philippians 4:6. We have access to reconciliation that heals all broken relationships, as seen in 2 Corinthians 5:18 – 21. We have access to our powerful God who will provides for all our needs, as seen in Philippians 4:19.

The Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven unlock the door to the Way, the Truth, and the Life by which we can enter into God’s presence. What better privilege can we claim as Christians?

Will you celebrate that privilege today? Take some time this morning to stop and thank God for the gift He has given us in His Son Jesus Christ. Will you contribute to His Kingdom with your right service of worship, prayerfully and sacrificially? Will you commit today to wield the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven in such a way that you help others walk through the door into the salvation power of Christ? Go forth and be the radiant bride of Christ in power and truth!
