“But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last. And after my body has decayed, yet in my body, I will see God! I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought! Job 19:25–27.
These are the words of Job. He was in the midst of a life "cave-in." He lost his children, his servants, his animals, his health, and he was being "comforted" by friends who said God must be punishing him. In the middle of all of this, Job remains confident.
Job kept his focus on God's character and sovereignty rather than being engulfed by the trials of life. Because of that, he is a great example to us. He did not like his circumstances, but that led him to dig deeper rather than walk away from the Lord.
Do you need that reminder today? Do not measure your life and value by your circumstances; measure it by your relationship to the Lord. He is our anchor, our vision, and the One who keeps us going. The hope of standing before Him and hearing "Well Done" is what keeps us steady even in the most difficult of times.
