The weekend wrap-up….. back by popular demand. Not really, I just wanted to do it. I had a blog site with a decent number of people who read and followed it in the past. I would post all kinds of leadership, discipleship, and potent ponderings of personal philosophies (like the alliteration). But the most read posts were none of those; it was my weekend wrap-up that just summarized the weekend. It kind of hurt my intellectual feelings. On the most part, the truth is, people just love the authentic dialog and down-to-earth, practical living and teaching. So here we go….
Friday, we were out in the Blizzard of 2021 to take DeAnna to Vanderbilt Medical Center for minor outpatient surgery. Everything went very smoothly, and she is sore but doing good. I know sometimes larger institutions get a bad rap, and everybody has an opinion (they are like bellybuttons; everybody has one, and they are full of lint, my Dad had a different expression that needed to be edited). Vanderbilt Medical Center has provided my family and me with excellent experiences. I just want to thank all the medical staff that made this day a repeated positive experience.
Saturday, I packed up and headed to Dyer, TN, to get settled in and ready to preach on Sunday. I had a great afternoon and evening catching up with old friends Mark and Melody Kirkpatrick. DeAnna and I have known them for over 30 years. We met them at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Melody made a wonderful meal with some pecan pie. I had to pace myself it was so good.
Sunday was a great day at Dyer Frist Assembly. I have enjoyed every opportunity to minister at this church, some amazingly friendly folks make you feel at home and a part of the family. If you live in the area and are looking for a good church, stop looking and join this church! Nathan Kirkpatrick and his team did a tremendous job leading us into His presence during worship. This young man and his wife, Haley, are going to do great things for the kingdom. They make me excited about the next generation of leaders! We had lunch in Trenton and I learned about their feeding program on Wednesday nights that started as a one-time special event in 2014 and hasn’t stopped since. Come on somebody shout! Love the heart and passion of Pastor Mark and his church to reach out into their community with a demonstration of God’s love. Praying a harvest of souls as they continue to sow into the lives of people. You can never go wrong loving people. Thank you, Dyer First Assembly for your investment in Restoration Church. We are humbled and honored by your partnership.
I traveled back to Kentucky after eating at the buffet with heavy eyes, so I called some of my favorite people on the planet to check in with them: DeAnna, Danielle, Chris Brown, and Scott Dobbins. Thanks for keeping me awake, so I didn’t have to pull over and take a nap. Life Lesson: Don’t eat as if you may never get to eat again when you have a 3-hour drive ahead of you. It was an awesome weekend.
