As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
– 1 Peter 2:4-5
Jesus is our High Priest and we are priests under him. We ought to do the same things He did. He prayed. He gave up Himself. He loved.
He was rejected. Are you prepared for rejection? This is one of the most difficult calls of the priesthood. Bear His image by trusting God in the face of rejection.
He was a holy sacrifice. We also are to offer our bodies as holy sacrifices to God. We are not our own, but were bought with a price. Be ready and willing to give yourself up for others.
We are being built up into a spiritual house. That house is supposed to reflect the heavenly dwelling place of God. We are supposed to show the world what it means to rest in the presence of God.
He came for the world to know Him, though they knew Him not. Therefore, we are to spread the knowledge of, and delight in, God.
And, in God’s sight we are very precious. Just as God’s Son was chosen and precious, so are we. We are God’s image-bearing church. We are the royal priests leading each other in triumphal procession to eternal rest with God.
We are a Royal Priesthood
