“So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.” (Deuteronomy 11:18-21)
We are to be "people of the Book." God has revealed Himself through the Bible and He commands us to be committed to His Word. We are to absorb it, memorize it, study it, and teach it to our children. His promise is simple: If you do what I tell you to do you will have a quality of life that is far superior to anything the world offers.
Where does Bible reading and Bible study fit into your life? If there is no room for it, you would be wise to reorient your priorities so first things are actually first. Before we will take any of God's other promises seriously, we need to take this one seriously. God's Word is His truth for us.
