- Insight from Butler's Daily Bible Reading: John 13—Supper. Some important incidences at the observance of the Passover supper by Christ with the disciples. •Feet: the foot washing incident at the supper. The practice (a common work done in those days because of sandals and dirt from walking); the person (Christ washed the disciples’ feet); the protest (Peter did not want Christ washing his feet, for he saw the fact that others should have done the foot washing); the plea (Christ’s response caused Peter to plea to be entirely washed); the portrayal (Christ said what He did in the foot washing was an example). •Foretelling: two important predictions by Christ. First, foretelling of the betrayal (this included the predicting of the betrayal, the perplexity of the disciples about who the betrayer was, the prodding about who the betrayer was, the pointing to the betrayer by Christ in giving him a sop, and the parting of the betrayer from the supper). Second, foretelling of the denial (this included the promise of Peter to be loyal and the prediction that Peter would deny Christ three times).
