Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
– Ephesians 3:21-22
According to this Scripture, the same God who is working powerfully and wonderfully in the church is supposed to receive glory in the church—and this glory is connected with the glory that Christ Jesus receives from now until all eternity.
What the Apostle makes clear here is that the church is involved in glorifying and magnifying the Son of God. Every program, every song, every sermon, every meal, and all else that happens within the people of God gathered is to have the praise of the glory of God in Christ Jesus at its center. Christ-centered church ought to be the regular.
How can we do this? Well, to use a worn-out catch phrase from my youth, What Would Jesus Do? Jesus did all things for the glory and honor of the Father, and so if we are to be doing the same, then we must be thinking of what Jesus would do. This question, more or less, must be at the front of our minds in making decisions as a church. And we can do so with God’s help—the Apostle Paul attaches the promise that God is able to do far more than we could hope or ask to this statement of God’s glory. This promise is a sure hope for us as we attempt to glorify God by our prayers and actions.
