Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
– Acts 2:33
The Holy Spirit and the promises and gifts He brings to us are directly related to the exaltation of Christ. Remember, the Spirit has been given not only to those who were present at the day of Pentecost (where our verse comes from) but also to us.
And the Spirit makes Himself known in many ways in the church. He gives her gifts, He gives her comfort, He leads her to the Father, He opens her eyes. And on and on His work goes.
Now, since we have the assurance of both the work of the Spirit and the promise of the Spirit, let us also grab hold of the exaltation of Christ. The Spirit is at work in us and for us. Christ, from His eternal throne, rules and reigns and will one day bring His bride to glory.
Not only are these things related, but it is Christ as the exalted One who pours the Spirit out on those who believe. Our comfort from the Spirit, our hope from the Spirit, and our gifts from the Spirit are a direct result of the ruling and reigning Son of God. Our redemption, therefore, is made sure by a triple work of God. The Father exalted the Son to His throne. The Son sent the Spirit upon the church. And the Spirit sealed us by His eternal power. Promise after promise and surety after surety gives us hope upon hope of our eternal redemption.
