At Home Weekly is designed for you to use during the week with your son or daughter. You’ll find out what they learned today at church, and can help them prepare for next week by exploring the theme (or Ponder Point) and spending time together in God’s Word.
What we Learned this week
PONDER POINT: JESUS IS THE ONE TRUE GOD
Stephen Is Martyred
Acts 6:8—7:60
Stephen loved Jesus. His relationship with Jesus was important to him. It was so important to him that he chose Jesus even when he was called before his nation’s highest court, the Sanhedrin. Stephen would not deny his faith in Jesus. Because of that he lost his life—but not before he was able to share his faith in Jesus with others. And not before he saw Jesus standing up in heaven, ready to greet him. Stephen remained obedient to his faith even when it cost him his life.
Where We’re Headed Next time
PONDER POINT: THE LORD WHO HEALS
Peter and Tabitha
Acts 9:36–42
A follower of Jesus named Tabitha served others by doing good deeds, including making clothes for those in need. God used Peter to raise Tabitha from the dead and show that Jesus is the Lord who heals.
Did you know?
Share these facts to get the conversation started.
• Acts 9:36–42 tells the story of Tabitha (also known as Dorcas) being raised from the dead.
• Tabitha was a well-respected woman who dedicated her time to good works.
• In Acts 9:36, Tabitha is described by the Greek word mathetria, meaning “a female disciple.” This word refers to Tabitha alone. It’s used nowhere else in the Scriptures.
Connect as a family
Discuss with your family ways you could serve your neighborhood. Maybe a sick neighbor needs a meal, or an elderly friend could use some help with yard work. After you’ve come up with some suggestions, set a time to take action, and then serve together as a family. Read Acts 9:36–42 (*Fire Bible, pp. 1363–1364) to learn more about how one woman served God and what happened to her.
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
• What are some ways you can care for those around you as Tabitha did?
• How did Jesus show Himself as the Lord who heals?
• Who in our life right now needs prayer for healing?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about Jesus, the Lord who heals, into your everyday life as a family.
Remember verse
The Remember Verse focuses on a character trait of God that's highlighted in next week's portion of The Big God Story.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes
on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
BLESSING
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child:
(Child’s name), may God care for your body, heart, and mind in every way. May He show Himself as the Lord who heals to you and to those around you.
