“Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.” (Hebrews 2:14-15)
This is an explanation of why God became a man in the person of Jesus. It was the only way the Son of God could set us free from the power of the devil and the fear of death.
Don't miss those last two phrases. When we truly trust Christ the devil no longer has power over us (he can tempt us and try to move us off the path of godliness, but he can't MAKE us do anything!) Thi means we no longer "have to" sin. the excuse "that's just the way I am" no longer holds water. It was the way you USED to be. When you come to Christ, you are a new person.
We are also told Christ freed us from the fear of death. The reason we no longer need to fear death is that we know what is on the other side. We know we will "live even though we die" (John 11). This life is but the first step in a journey that (the believer) will last through all eternity.
So, have you surrendered your life to the One who died for you?
