“14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
(1 Peter 1:14-16)
Peter gives great direction here. When we come to Christ we are no longer who we used to be. This means we should no longer be dragged into the behaviors that used to get us in so much trouble and lead us in a wrong direction. Things like our lusts, bad temper, our tendency to ”shade the truth,” laziness, or indifference to others (being self-absorbed).
When these things want access to our lives, our response should be to remind ourselves that these behaviors are a dead end path . . . They lead to nothing but trouble. Then we must turn to the Lord for strength and ask the Holy Spirit to help us live in the new life that was given to us through Christ.
Of course, if we believe Satan, that the old life wasn’t so bad, we will stumble and fall again. We must be convinced that His way is the best way. And of course, it is.
