New Testament Blitz
December 1st: 1 Corinthians 9-11
Paul is defending his right to be called an apostle, along with some essential teachings. He also is teaching on some things that are contextual based. How do you discern between universal teachings verses specifics for that group at that time?

Hmmm! I don’t know if I want to comment on some of this. 😊 I have heard lots of discussion over the years re: the husband being the head of the household and the wife should therefore be submissive to him. However — read Ephesians 5:22-33, and it clarifies this subject clearer, in that, there is mutual love and respect for each other— and the husband “should love his wife as his own body”. It is all “to the glory of God”. I love I Corinthians 10:13– re: temptation. It is so true that every temptation we have encountered has not been isolated to just us. Another song we used to sing says— I’ve got the power in the name of Jesus, tho Satan tempts me, I will not be defeated. I’ve got the power, in the name of the Lord. Verse 13 says— “with the temptation he will provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”. Thank you Jesus that He doesn’t leave us just hanging. There is power in the name of the Lord.- True! I totally agree! Re: the submission issue, I've struggled and been angry with Paul over the years. I think I've settled on the idea that you can't take individual verses and sections of the Bible in isolation; the Bible is a whole message, and "the Word" is Jesus. So Jesus is the lens for interpreting this; how did Jesus treat women? How should people treat their spouses if they're modeling their behavior after Jesus?
