Proverbs 23:19-22 Hear my son and be wise; and guide your heart in the way. Do not mix with winebibbers, or with glutonous eaters of meat; For the drunkards and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old. When I was a young Boy Scout, our troop was on a camping trip. I was either 11 or 12 years old. One of the older boys was talking and called his mother, "My old lady." Our scoutmaster took him several years away with another adult, and they 'corrected' him. It was verbal, but he was nonetheless corrected. When they were done, the boy, I think he was about 16, came back to the campfire and apologized to all of us for what he called his mom. We, as parents and grandparents, have a responsibility to teach our children basic respect. I've heard from teachers, business owners, managers, coaches, and others that young people come to them without the skills of showing respect - and that sets them up for failure (unless they go into the military). We need to teach our children and grandchildren basic respect.
