There might not be a better phrase than “my cup overflows” to describe what it is to be a sheep in the Good Shepherd’s flock. This does not mean that everything is perfect. It means that the goodness set before us is continually more than we can contain. When we rightly deserved God’s wrath and punishment our Good Shepherd invited us into His tent. He set the best He had before us. While our enemies watched He anointed our head with the oil of God’s blessings. He not only stood between us and our enemies, sin and death, He fought them to the death, giving up His life in order the ensure our safety. Then He rose from the grave, picked up his staff and rod, and called us by name to be part of His flock. Life will still have its challenges. Hard times will come. But the blessings we have already received, and the promises of blessing to come as we journey to the house of the Lord, far outweigh these light and momentary trials. Your cup overflows like a fountain.
Prayer
Jesus, my Good Shepherd, thank You for all of the blessings you have poured into my cup. I cannot contain. Help me to gratefully follow Your voice all the days of my life. Amen.
