What are we searching for? This is an interesting tidbit in that to walk a path of righteousness, we have to be purposeful and active in our search for good, which will yield favor upon our lives. When it comes to evil, however, if we are bent even in the slightest way in its direction, it will find us! In fact, it seems evil is just waiting for the opportunity.
As in the words God spoke to Cain in Genesis 4:7, “You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be it’s master.” It is almost as if sin waits to ambush us.
This world we live in is bent toward evil because of who runs it - the devil. There is a massive exposure happening right now in our country and in the world revealing the evil that has been at work, behind the scenes. I am not sure we are ready for what is about to be uncovered when we discover the depths of depravity that man is capable of. Whether we didn’t see it before or chose not to see it, it is coming out for all to see because I believe God is uncovering it. Massive repentance and sorrow is on the horizon for what has been happening right under our noses. How many children have been trafficked and for what purposes? It takes a special kind of evil to go after the most innocent. I believe Jesus stated that it would be better for one to have a millstone tied around their neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea than to cause harm to one of his little ones!
To walk a path of righteousness is to swim upstream and takes effort. No such effort is needed to do evil as all one has to do is just go with the tide. You ever wonder why it seems so hard to do what is right? It takes more effort because you are fighting an undercurrent that is trying to push you in the opposite direction.
We each have to fight for our relationship with God in our search for good because we live in hostile, occupied territory because of what satan did in the garden. We have dominion over him because of our relationship with Christ but it is an authority we must exercise at all times for the devil is always looking for a way to take us down. As Jesus opposed him by saying, “It is written,” so must we! In order to do that, we must know what is written. 😉
As God told Joshua in Joshua 1:8, “Study the Book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
