For some, money is their fortress. They think it is an impenetrable wall that protects them from all things. Such is not the case however. There is a reason why Jesus said that you can’t serve God and money. Money is most definitely a ‘god’ in this world and to serve it is idolatry. God even refers to it as adultery. To trust in money is to not trust in God. Money fails, investments fail, but God does not. He is a sure foundation.
People think that money is the answer to all their problems and will even steal, cheat and kill to get it. Money should never be the focus. It is a useful tool and Jesus even said to “Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.” (Luke 16:9)
We are to use well what we have to benefit others. The promise in this verse also paints a picture of what the godly are like. They flourish like Spring leaves. It always amazes me how a tree in Spring time can transform in just a few days. Amazing how a tree can look dead and then pop out life everywhere.
Life is full of seasons and no season last forever which is why it is important to recognize what season we are in and utilize our resources to help and benefit others. When we approach life this way, we will find our resources never run dry. God rewards the righteous here on earth and in heaven.
