Reasons for Boasting
Text - 1 Corinthians 9:12-18
Big idea: Paul gave up his right to be supported as an apostle by the Corinthians because he wanted his only pride to be in preaching the gospel freely.
Main Points:
1. Paul's Rights Surrendered (v. 12-14)
2. Paul's Reason for Boasting (v. 15-18)
Note from pastor:
As I’ve been studying this passage, I’ve been really challenged by Paul’s heart. He had every right to be supported as an apostle, but he gave that up—not because he had to, but because he didn’t want anything to get in the way of the gospel. He wasn’t focused on what he deserved—he just wanted to make Jesus known. That’s a good reminder for us. In a world where we’re often encouraged to stand up for our rights, Paul shows us a better way: lay down our rights if it helps someone hear about Christ. Let’s be people who don’t boast in what we’re entitled to, but in the privilege of sharing the gospel freely.
