I know this is not main point of today's reading but I am glad to know I am not the only one.

As a rule I have an excellent memory for faces but a terrible memory for names. I can see someone, especially if they are out of context, know that I know them but can spend the whole conversation with them trying to work out in my head why I know them and where I last met them. The signals my eyes send to my brain are good but partial.
- Paula, I compared various translations of Luke 24:16 and it appears they did not recognize him because Jesus prevented them. It seems he simply did not want them to know who he was until after he had delivered his exposition on the prophecies in scripture pertaining to himself. Thoughts on these translations?
- I agree David, at least in the Emmaus account, the disciples were *kept* from recognizing Jesus.
- I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I read something this weekend that may have hinted as to why they recognized him suddenly. The man was talking about a trip to Israel that he made and went to Emmaus. The guide there showed him how Jesus would have broken the bread and passed it to them. His palms would have been up as he passed it and they would have seen the nail scars. At that point it all would have clicked. Still does not explain, if they were close enough to Jesus, why they did not recognize His face, unless the grief of the lost was overwhelming them.
