- "Paul and Palestinian Judaism" by E.P. Sanders is a good critique of a blind use of this resource. Be sure to read his review for a little balance. Or before you use it.
- Hi Ray, Although Sanders is a 'good start' to venturing into the reality of NT backgrounds viz-a-viz 2nd Temple life, he's not the end-all-beat-all. He had his strengths, but he also had his weaknesses. Sanders took everyone just so far, but not it's time to go the whole route and recover what IN REALITY the 2nd Temple period was with respect to the NT. A good place to start is to begin with the covenants and their true, real-life form, purpose and meaning, in terms of the NT and the Apostle Paul. I've written some blogs on this subject. Cheers...Chris
- At the risk of sounding too dismissive, any author - referring specifically to E.P. Sanders here - who describes 2nd Temple Judaism using the term "Palestinian" has an inaccurate grasp on history. From a theological perspective, the term is wanting and reflects a skewed, supersessionist perspective viz a vis New Covenant doctrine.
