Ryan
- A valuable book for its snapshot within a very specific window of the the development of American thought. It is interesting that Ryrie bases his argument in the specific roles Jesus himself assigned to Jewish men, in that Ryrie finds modern significance in the gender of those Jesus chose. Ryrie views Jesus selection of men to be universally normative, but remained silent as to the Jewish ethnicity or culture. Following the logic of the core argument of his book, not just men but only JEWISH men ought to lead the Church. Should gentiles and women be selected later in church history as leaders, it would easily invalidate the book’s main premise. Ryrie historically had provided the Church with treasure troves of good exegesis. This particular book did not reach that level of acclaim but still provides a valuable historical peak into the development of Evangelical trends, as if we’re walking into a room mid argument.
