- You never talked about the usery issue for which you have no response. I see that when you have no argument you fall back on ad hominem remarks. Clown and modernist simply betray an intellectual void. Modernist is the go to response just as a 50’s retro called any one they didn’t like a communist. The death penalty is not a divine law. It is culturally based. Those who like it are more into revenge than justice. Before DNA evidence how many innocent people were executed. You feel that your judgment is superior to the Church and its leaders. Here is a name you can adopt - Donatist.
- Hey Steve, I get where you're coming from, but there are many practices in Christianity that were once observed but are no longer required because they depended on specific historical and cultural circumstances. One example is severe public penance, where a person who committed a grave sin could be singled out and separated from the congregation for years. These kinds of practices are what we call contingent realities—they are different from eternal truths because they can change based on the needs of the time.
- probably another good example is with the laity owning bibles. due to the inability to ensure a completely orthodox bible being mass produced and just cause it was impractical for a long time there was a prohibition on personally owning a bible.
- Hi Steve- In what ways? Just a cursory review online seems to indicate that it references/quotes a lot of Scripture and the Catholic Catechism. I'm just curious as a former Catholic. Thanks and God Bless.
- Chris, I was born and raised Baptist and at 39 years old converted to the Catholic Church. Books like this helped me convert. I would suggest that you check out a book in response to this one by a good friend of my name Gary Michuta. Facebook is entitled Gary G. Michuta The Gospel According to James McCarthy: A Catholic Answer to James McCarthy's "The Gospel According Rome”
