Once more, if anyone still follows this group: If I'm counting correctly, it looks like I've got 74 transcriptions of early (before AD 500) Christian #papyri available, and that 70 of them have a draft translation of some sort. https://rickbrannan.github.io/StuffEarlyChristiansRead/ — to my knowledge most of these have not been translated into English yet.

If anyone still follows this group, note I've been blogging on the topic of "Stuff Early Christians Read", looking at papyri of letters, prayers, and other documents that circulated in the early church. https://rickbrannan.com/category/stuff-early-christians-read/

Thanks, all, for your interest in this topic. The class is over. If you went to the sessions, we'd appreciate any feedback you've got. If you followed along online via PowerPoint & PDF, we'd be interested to know of your experience as well. Thanks again, folks!

I've been following/downloading from afar, and everything I've looked at has been a really helpful, succinct, accessible summary of the literature! Thank you!

I'm excited about our class tonight. Finally, we get to talk about the Apostolic Fathers and also some noncanonical gospels! And, if there is enough time, I'll read from "Christ's Descent to Hades", the latter portion of what is known as the Gospel of Nicodemus. For those interested, I'll be uploading the PowerPoints shortly.

Our last class is tomorrow (Oct 24, 2013) at 6:30PM, at Grace Church Bellingham. I've uploaded some documents, if you're a group member, check the "Documents" tab. I'll have two handouts at the class, but I've uploaded expanded forms of the handouts here. Also some background and translations that I'll refer to (some of which are in the handouts, some not).

Just uploaded Mike Heiser's slides on the Pseudepigrapha from the Stuff Early Christians Read class last night. Thanks Mike!

Also, here is a link to AnneMarie Luijendijk's book on early Christians and Oxyrhynchus. This is the best thing I've read on the topic.

Last night, I mentioned "Oxyrhynchus" in answer to a question about literacy in early Christianity. Here's the mostly reliable Wikipedia page on the Oxyrhynchus Papyri:

Getting ready for Thursday's session. Will be Matt Whitehead talking about the Sectarian Dead Sea Scrolls material, and Mike Heiser talking about the OT Pseudepigrapha. Should be a hoot!
