Sometimes I forget how clearly God implored His people to make their faith an issue of the heart. Life is attached to love, not works.

Deuteronomy 30:6New American Standard Bible (1995)
“Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.

God is looking for more than just conformity to a standard, but joy and gladness. Obedience without gladness is a sinister form of disobedience.

Deuteronomy 28:47New American Standard Bible (1995)
          “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things;

One application among many is to avoid alarm during crazy political cycles.
            Quote Image
Psalm 46:10New American Standard Bible (1995)
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

This verse, tucked away in the middle of instruction on witchcraft, is quoted extensively throughout the New Testament as a key text for the Messianic era. It is a good reminder to pay close attention to all of Scripture, not just the famous parts.

Deuteronomy 18:15New American Standard Bible (1995)
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.

Redemption is invoked because it magnifies the greatness of the Redeemer, not the redeemed.
                Quote Image
Psalm 44:26New American Standard Bible (1995)
Rise up, be our help, And redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.

Cool perspective on giving: a slice of blessing, not a pound of flesh.

Deuteronomy 16:17New American Standard Bible (1995)

Our transience is a source of encouragement towards holiness, a source of confidence in the presence of the wicked, and a source of anticipation for the nearness of our future hope in Christ.
                    Quote Image
Psalm 39:4–5New American Standard Bible (1995)
“LORD, make me to know my end And what is the extent of my days; Let me know how transient I am. “Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah.

It's important to know what we are free FROM (sin), but it is also important that we understand what are free FOR (loving service). Christian freedom is not autonomy.

Galatians 5:13New American Standard Bible (1995)
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
