2 Peter starts off with character traits that develop when we accept the fruit of the Spirit and live in our Faith. We need to add and keep advancing these qualities in our lives.

What is shaping us? Whose marks are we trusting? Freedom rooted in Christ creates a new kind of people.

Various boundary markers or tests for believers (such as circumcision in the Bible) should not matter. Insisting on such "rules" as something that counts rejects God's plan for reconciling humanity with each other and with God. What matters is a new creation through circumcision of the heart, and faith expressing itself in love.
