When someone is looking for a new church home it is nice to know the basics without having to read everything on their website. Here is a little information that we hope will help you know what to expect when you come as our guest.
Preaching
We believe the expositional preaching of the biblical text is the best way to communicate God's Word to His people. Our pastor works through an entire book of the Bible verse by verse. He takes periodic breaks for special occasions and short series. This approach to preaching helps to make sure that ALL passages of the Bible are preached, not just the easy ones. Our pastor preaches for approximately 45 minutes. (Since he is the one writing this section, it should be pointed out that he would like to shorten the sermon time to approximately 35 minutes so other aspects of worship can be included in the service more frequently).
Worship
Most people would describe our "style" of worship as traditional. If traditional is defined as seeking to honor God with every aspect of our words and actions during a worship service, then we are certainly traditional. Our congregational singing is comprised of hymns, both ancient and modern. Our choir brings a beautiful sound to the ears of all those in attendance, singing musical arrangements that captivate the heart and soul. From time to time we have instrumentalists and vocalists bless us with their musical talents. The other areas of worship that are practiced weekly are prayer, Scripture reading, giving, and fellowship. The LORD's Supper is practiced monthly and baptisms are conducted when appropriate.
Bible Versions
There is much talk about the strengths and weaknesses of various Bible versions. We choose to encourage people to study and live out the teachings of whatever faithful translation they choose to read. Our Sunday worship service usually presents the text of Scripture in the KJV and/or the ESV. We encourage the use of the following versions: English Standard Version, New American Standard Bible, New King James Version, King James Version, and the Holman Christian Standard Version.
Dress Standards
May we all seek to follow the LORD's leading in this aspect of community life. First Samuel 16:7 tells us that "the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” The style of attire is not so important as much as the modesty of the attire. Our pastor usually wears a suit on Sunday morning, but may come in slacks or jeans for the Wednesday evening Bible study. The men in the congregation are commonly seen in button-down shirts or polos with slacks. Ladies should feel comfortable wearing a dress or a blouse with a skirt or slacks. Modesty is the standard by which we ask you to come to worship.
