Sunday December 6: A thrill of HOPE!
Next Sunday, December 6, is the first Sunday of Advent. The following is a short study for this first Advent:
A thrill of HOPE!
Advent is an expectant waiting & preparation for both celebration of Jesus Christ's birth AND His return at the second coming!
These four Sundays leading up to Christmas have a different focus, to help us remember what the season is REALLY about.
This week is HOPE. The belief that something desired will come true, or about.
READ: Matthew 1:16-25 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.
Joseph: He had every reason to bolt... and DIDN'T. He is a just, righteous man, who had to decide - trust God's plans or his own hesitancy. He was faithful in the midst of uncertainty because he believed God. Believing that there is a different ending from what is in front of us is HOPE. Like Joseph, our choice to believe in this greater HOPE despite circumstances that tell us otherwise is what defines our faith.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (NKJV)
Right now, this is more relevant than ever. Where have we put HOPE? In the government, the vaccine, or GOD? Think about Joseph this week.
Let the THRILL of HOPE empower you... thrill means charge, as in power. Our Power comes from the HOLY SPIRIT.

Hope to see you there!

10 Items of FOCUS!
O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name. -- Daniel 9:19
1. Honor the Father
Key Scripture: Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Prayer: It is You we adore Father. You alone are worthy of praise, honor and glory; not because of what You do but simply because of who You are.
2. Take us back to our First Love –
Key Scripture: Matthew 22:37-39 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Prayer: Lord, lead me back to my First Love.
3. Keep us Focused –
Key Scripture: Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Prayer: Lord, fix my eyes and my heart on what is most important.
4. Trust in You –
Key Scripture: Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Prayer: Lord, search my heart for worry and any lack of trust.
5. Forgiveness –
Key Scripture: 1 John 9-10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Prayer: Father forgive us and cleanse us of our sins.
6. Submission –
Key Scripture: Luke 7:2-8 Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue. ”And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Therefore, I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
Prayer: Lord humble my heart to any person or authority I have trouble submitting to. Father we lift those leaders to You to firstly have a relationship with You. It is You from where all truth flows and so led by You their decisions will be for Your purposes.
7. Thankfulness –
Key Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to offer you a heart of thanksgiving and praise in all my daily experiences of life. Teach me to be joyful always, to pray continually and to give thanks in all my circumstances. I accept them as Your will for my life I long to bring pleasure to Your heart daily. Break the power of the enemy in my life. Defeat Him through my sacrifice of praise. Change my outlook and attitude into one of joyful contentment with my present circumstances.
8. Living life to serve the purpose of God –
Key Scripture: Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship.”
Prayer: Father, thank You for your son Jesus and His sacrifice. Without Him, I am nothing. I can give You nothing. But through Him and only Him, I can offer myself as a living sacrifice. I choose to do that in this moment, Lord. Jesus has made me holy and acceptable, fit for service in Your Kingdom. Use me to reach others and impact my community.
9. Living Life in Christ
Key Scripture: John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
Prayer: Father, we pray for renewal and refreshment in our spiritual life. We know that we have a choice on what to do moving forward. Our pray is for our will to be surrendered and conformed to Christ. We pray to live a life of obedience to You. In you, we pray to continue to nurture the fruit of the Spirit that a relationship with you will bring as we are faithful to you. In Jesus’ name.
10. Putting on the “Full Armor of God”
Key Scripture: Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Prayer: Father we understand our own inability to overcome the temptations and attacks of daily life. We recognize the spiritual battle before us and are thankful for Holy Spirit’s availability to enable us to overcome. We are thankful that through Your presence and promises that we are delivered. We will walk in obedience and victory because of Your faithfulness.
