Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.
Isaac may be a prototype of Christ, a sacrifice carrying the wood on his shoulders to be a "burnt offering" which is a total sacrifice to God for the sins of mankind. Abraham, as his father, was to carry out that death sentence and carried the means in his hands.

    Consider that it was on the third day that Isaac was "raised from the dead". Hebrws 11:19
