A Guide to Praying for Our Schools and Universities

Education in 2022 looks very different than it has in past years. While there are various models, styles and options available from kindergarten through university life, they all have one thing in common....our students, teachers, staff, parents and families need our prayers.

Consider making prayer around the topic of school part of your normal prayer rhythm. Whether at a home, school, sports activity, etc. there are lots of opportunities to pray. Use these moments to submit prayers to the throne of our Father.

Here are some prompts to get you started. Keep a copy in a location where you normally pray. Keep a copy in your Bible. Keep a copy in your car. Ask for an electronic copy for your phone. Remind yourself to pray over the topic of school, the next generation and those who influence that generation on a regular basis.

    Ways to pray:

    • Proclaim Christ

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:5-6)

    • Pray for the 2022-2023 school year

Lord, I ask you to encourage those students who are struggling with their studies or socially. Strengthen their minds and hearts. Help their teachers and parents know how to help them. Protect them from feelings of worthlessness and shame. (1 Thessalonians 5:14)

“I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)

    • Pray for salvation and restoration to Christ

Lord, release truth in our schools. Help students to rightly discern truth and not believe false teachings. (Proverbs 23:23)

Lord, may there be an open door in our schools for the gospel to be shared with students and staff. Allow full advantage to be taken of every opportunity to name the name of Jesus. (Matthew 7:7; 1 Corinthians 16:9)

Father, I pray for abundant blessings on programs that bring Christ into our schools. Help the groups who sponsor such programs function according to Your Word and in harmony with each other. Bless the leaders and bring forth new and growing believers. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)

Father, may your kingdom come. Raise up a generation of people who worship You in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24; 1 Peter 2:9).

    • Pray for the safety and peace of the students, parents, teachers, and faculty

Lord, stay the hand of violence against those physically located in school and university buildings. Dismantle any plan to bring harm to them. Expose any weapon brought into the premises and render it harmless. (Psalm 34:7; Psalm 54:1)

    • Pray for churches and Christian students, teachers, and faculty to have a positive impact.

Father, may the students and staff of each school experience Your love through the Christians they know in profound

    and authentic ways. (John 13:35)

Grant Christian students wisdom and boldness in living out their faith. Help them share effectively the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ with their classmates. (1 Timothy 4:12)

    • Pray for leaders and school board decisions

May those overseeing our education systems recognize the God-given responsibility they have to serve the best

interests of the students. May they walk in wisdom, integrity, grace, and truth. (Proverbs 2:1-11)

I pray blessings on each administrator. Father, guide their steps. May Your will be done at meetings as decisions are made. (Romans 13:1)

    • Pray for all instruction models

Lord, provide each student, teacher and parent with patience as they navigate new ways to accomplish teaching and learning. Help each student find a system that works well for them and allows them to flourish. Let grace abound, Father. Give them strength for each day and abundant joy. (Philippians 4:4,13)

    • Pray for the health of all who enter schools and offices

Father, put Your hedge of protection around each physical school location. Do not allow any illness to cause the school

year to be disrupted. (2 Thessalonians 3:3; Deuteronomy 31:6)

    ***

Remember when you pray, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. He will direct your prayers and open your heart to pray for specific situations.

Thanks for lifting up this school year in prayer!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

    1. Praying and will keep praying, for this is our future and people that want to do right must act rather than say "we should or they should do this or that". Our Lord has control and we must all humble ourselves, look into our hearts and just talk to God and ask for his guidance. Good people must band together and stay strong.
