"...And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
"And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around about Elisha." (II Kings 6:15-17)
As the king of Syria warred against Israel, he sought to capture the prophet Elisha in the city of Dothan. In doing so, he surrounded the city with his troops; and, when Elisha's servant saw the troops... the verses above tell the rest of the story. In reality, Elisha and his servant were not alone; but, the Lord had provided a host of angels to protect His faithful servants in their time of need.
"And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote the camp of the Assyrians one hundred eighty-five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead." (II Kings 19:35)
The Assyrians had already conquered much of Israel and Judea and now had Jerusalem surrounded. Good king Hezekiah had prayed and asked the Lord to save the city. In response, the Lord sent the prophet Isaiah to tell him that the Lord would indeed protect the city. And, as we see from the above verse, the Lord was true to His word and sent His angel to destroy the enemy and keep the city safe.
Today's verses: Psalm 91:9-12, Psalm 34:7, Hebrews 1:13-14, Matthew 18:10, Matthew 4:5-7
Psalm 91:9-12
"Because you have made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the Most High; your habitation; (verse 9) ...For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. (verse 11) They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone." (verse 12)
Psalm 91 is not alone in revealing this angelic presence in the lives of His children
"The angel of the LORD encamps around them that fear Him, and delivers them." (Psalm 34:7)
"But to which of the angels said He at any time, Sit on My right hand until I make your enemies your footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" (Hebrews 1:13-14)
"Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 18:10)
For those who have made the Lord their "heart home", as we talked about yesterday, (Psalm 91:9) and have reverent respect for Him (Psalm 34:7); He has given His angels instructions to watch over them: to protect them, to deliver them, and minister for their good to the glory of God. While the angels are impressive, powerful, and important in the lives of the faithful, they are not to be worshiped: they are but our fellow servant's of the Lord. Our worship belongs only to God. (Revelation 22:8-9)
Do not tempt God
Matthew 4:5-7
"Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you, and, In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.' " Jesus said to him, "It is written again, "You shall not tempt the LORD your God."
When Satan was tempting Jesus on the temple, it was Psalm 91:12 that he was quoting. While Jesus knew that He had angelic protection as stated in the psalm, He also knew that we should not temp God through improper conduct. For example, although the Lord says His angels will protect us: we should not foolishly close our eyes and blindly venture into a busy street. Neither, should we expect the angels utmost protection when we deliberately walk outside of His will and plan for our lives. The Lord has a marvelous secret place for His faithful children, compete with angelic protection. Those that have made the Lord their "heart home" can confidently walk through crisis after crisis, in His will, for His glory. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Nuestra adoración pertenece sólo a Dios. (Apocalipsis 22:8-9)
No tiente a Dios
Mateo 4:5-7
