Church Age Details | Detalles de la Edad de la Iglesia
"Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
And God has set some in the Church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues." ( I Corinthians 12:27-28)
As we saw previously, the church has (temporarily) replaced the nation of Israel as God's representative to the world. Since His departure, the church has become Christ's physical body/presence in the world: and we, as believers, make up that body, complete with individual gifts as parts of that body to fulfill the church's mission. (I Corinthians 12:12-31) From various prophecies, we know that the nation of Israel will once again, some day, be the center of history. "Thus says the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you." (Zechariah 8:23) As such and as part of the prophetic gap, the Church Age has a definite beginning and end.
The beginning of the Church Age
It is clear from Daniel's 70 "weeks", that the Church Age gap began sometime after the end of Daniel's 69th "week", which concluded with Jesus' royal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
"I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church." (Colossians 1:24)
"For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free - and have been made to drink into one Spirit." (I Corinthians 12:13)
Like our opening passage in I Corinthians 12:26-7, in this passage from Colossians, we again see that the church is the body of Christ. And, from the I Corinthians passage, we see that believers have been baptized into that body (the church) by the Holy Spirit.
"And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, said He, you have heard of Me.
For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence." (Acts 1:4-5)
After His resurrection, Jesus gave this command to His apostles to stay in Jerusalem and wait for their being baptized by the Holy Spirit. This baptism and beginning of the Church Age on the Day of Pentecost is recorded in Acts 2:1-4, "And, they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." (verse 4)
The end of the Church Age
I Thessalonians 4:13-18
"For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord Himself shall descent from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
I Corinthians 15:50-52
"Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
The end of the Church Age will come with a truly miraculous event that we call the rapture: an event in which believers, both alive and dead, will be "caught up" to meet the Lord in the clouds. In doing so, they will receive new immortal bodies: and be with Jesus forever.
"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night." (I Thessalonians 5:2)

( I Corintios 12:27-28)
(I Corintios 12:13)
I Tesalonicenses 4:13-18
I Corintios 15:50-52
(I Tesalonicenses 5:2)
