We should be the most humble people on earth. We know we could not stand before God on our own "goodness". Our only hope is a forgiveness that is given by God's mercy and grace. Why would He do this? So we would worship and honor Him!
Do you feel you are a "good person?" May I ask a simple question: Who or What is your point of comparison? Are you looking at other people (who are all sinful), or are you measuring yourself against the Lord and His Word? If you measure yourself by God's perfect character and standard, you will know you don't have any hope of saving yourself. We desperately need someone to pay for our sin and cover us with a righteousness that is not our own. That someone is Jesus.
If you understand this . . . there will be no room in your life for arrogance or a judgmental spirit. You will live out your days with profound gratitude and heartfelt and spirit-led worship. Thanks be to God!
Stunned by Grace 10.16.20
If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.
