Preparing for Worship - November 29, 2020

The Christmas season has officially arrived! This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, when we begin looking forward with anticipation to Christmas Day. With this in mind, we’ll begin our worship this week by singing Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. This is the traditional hymn, with a beautiful chorus added:

Come thou great Redeemer

Come Emmanuel

Bless the nations with Your presence here

Born our souls to rescue

Born to save Your very own

Long expected Jesus

Make our hearts Your home

Next, the Jarrett family will share some devotional thoughts about our Advent theme of HOPE, and we will light the first candle on the Advent wreath and respond in song with Living Hope.

This week, Pastor Andrew begins our new Advent sermon series, First Christmas, First Followers. This series will look at some of the characters in the biblical Christmas story and examine how these people serve as examples of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. This week’s message is entitled “Mary: Favored Servant of God” and the Scripture passage can be found in Luke 1:26-35,46-55. Our response in song will be Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery. Wrapping up our time together, we will pray for our Giving and be sent out with a Benediction. As always, tell us how we can be praying for you. Send your prayer requests to: prayer@meadowsfamily.org.

You can prepare for worship this week by prayerfully reflecting on the Scripture and songs above. This week, we will be worshiping by live-stream only as we continue to take precautions and move slowly toward resuming in-person worship services. I hope you can join us.
