Start me from scratch in adding notes/highlights to a book.
This will probably be the first of several posts asking about Notes. I constantly highlight and make notes, but I lack some basic understanding — despite watching Proctor (and other) videos more than once. I beg patience.
So, let's just start with two:
1. I'm in 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, wanting to 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀. I've noticed in past books that some get stored in that book's notebook (though I'd created none), some in No notebooks, and some others all over Christendom and beyond.
What should I do, first thing? Should I create a notebook of any title I choose 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 with a book? And then I have to reopen that notebook 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 I open the book?
2. What of the hundreds, 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱? Should I go and create a notebook for each one, one by one, and figure out how to move the existing notes into those new notebooks? And then remember to open up those notebooks every time I get into the book.
Seems to me a nice feature would be if the notes automatically went into the book's notebook unless otherwise configured by the user.
Thanks!
- Daniel, I struggled to understand Notes but now am familiar enough with it that I could talk you through it on a Zoom session where I would share my screen and you could watch and repeat on your Logos. Reply if interested and I will send you my email address. -john
- I agree Daniel, using notes is to me, is a real struggle! I find it confusing and difficult always. I find it very hard to find the notes when I want them. I just deleted all my notes and am starting from scratch. I have been trying to use notes since its big update but it has not worked for me as of yet. I am hoping this big delete will do the trick and I can make a leap in understanding its usefulness because I can see the potential!
- FWIW, I have always created a notebook for the specific resource I'm using. I also created a notebook for each book of the Bible. Although the current version of Notes automatically sorts Bible references, I continue to use the notebooks I created before Logos redesigned the Notes tool. Regarding highlights, I have no idea what's going on. Apparently, Logos had or has some kind of internal process for assigning highlights that I don't understand. It has created notebooks for my highlights on its own accord. For example, it has created folders for "Custom Palette", "Custom Palette(2)", and so forth. I also have the "no notebook" you mentioned. I have too many years invested to redo my highlights, so I've decided to let sleeping dogs lie and accept less than perfect organization of my highlights. For me, the benefits greatly outweigh any disadvantages.
