How We Get There

“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”

 – Revelation 5:9-10

If the goal, as we learned yesterday, is to dwell with God, how can we get there? We have two problems that must be overcome before this unity can be accomplished.

Our first problem is that we have sinned, and God cannot bear to see or dwell with sin. It must be done away with completely.

A second problem is also present. Even if we were to be sinless, we would still be barred from eating of the Tree of Life, the other tree that was in the midst of the garden. God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden because they might not eat of it. This Tree, this Life, is found in Jesus. Jesus says we must eat of His flesh and blood – that we must partake not only of His death but also of His resurrection. That we must not only be forgiven but be made righteous.

These two things are bound up in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. We need Jesus’ sinless life just as much as we need His atoning death. We need a High Priest who is able to ransom us from certain doom and give us birthright to the Kingdom of God.

God has a mission to save the world through the blood of Jesus, His Son. Jesus is the Great High Priest and His blood is our only hope. He is the way, and the truth, and the life.
