Psalm 47:7-9 CSB "Sing a song of wisdom, for God is King of the whole earth. [8] God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. [9] The nobles of the peoples have assembled with the people of the God of Abraham. For the leaders of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted."
The enemy surrounds the city, the Assyrian battle cries echo through the valley, and Jerusalem leaders and people tremble. The covid ramps up, the weather warnings are issued, the grocery store shelves emptied. When fear arises, hope wanes, and courage fades, the psalmist writes clap, shout, and sing how great is our KIng.
Psalm 47 reminds us when trouble and despair take over, and we want to give up, tell someone How great our God is. Psalm 47:2 (NASB95) says: "For the Lord Most High is to be feared, A great King over all the earth." The New Living Translation says: "The Lord Most High is awesome." No matter what we face out, God and Savior is so great we often can't find the words to describe Him. The psalmist says our battle cry proclaims what we know about God.
"Victory in Jesus," "How Great Thou Art," "In Christ Alone," and "Didn't I Walk on Water" are some of my favorite songs about God's greatness. When trouble comes, sing songs that describe God's sovereignty, holiness, omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence. Also, pray words of praise from scripture. Then tell someone else the words that you used to describe God.
Lord Jesus, as confidence in supply chains, weather preparation, medical answers fade, today, I will Clap (get the attention of everyone around me) and shout with a ringing cry of joy (Psalm 47:1). As I sing praises, I know my God and savior will ascend amid the words I use to tell others about You (47:5).
Lord, here is our song for today:
"Sing praises to God, sing praises; Sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with a skillful psalm. [God is still large and in charge of His creation]. God reigns over the nations, God sits on His holy throne. The princes of the people have assembled themselves as the people of the God of Abraham, For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is highly exalted" (Psalm 47:6–9 NASB95). The Lord Most High rules me today; therefore, victory over my enemies is evident.
