1 Samuel 12:24 CSB "Above all, fear the LORD and worship him faithfully with all your heart; consider the great things he has done for you."
God saved Israel. God gave Israel victory. Then Israel looked around and saw other nations had human kings to protect them. Israel asked for a king. God gave them a king. King Saul appeared holy and respectful of God; however, King Saul honored God only as far as it benefited him and his political power. The people followed Saul's example.
Samuel's last words to the nation of Israel apply to believers everywhere. God has blessed America (Acts 17:22–31). God has blessed believers. Our country is being deceived into thinking we need to imitate governing bodies that control other nations. God grants us governing authorities to protect us from the evil of those who do not honor and believe in Him (Romans 13:1–14; Galatians 5:22–26). We, as believers, must continually stop and remember what God has done for us (Romans 5:1–11; 8:1–8). We must campaign for the Lord and worship Him faithfully with all our hearts. The more people believe in Jesus (the Gospel Truth) and become worshippers of God, the better our country becomes.
Oh Lord, my God, America has forgotten we are charged to leave the USA more godly and holy for the next generation than we found it. Lord, help me understand the victory you have given me through faith in Jesus Christ. Help me stand here quietly and understand all the good things You have done for me (1 Samuel 12:7). No matter who rules, my Lord still has control of my life. Forgive me for praising programs and politicians for the blessings you have bestowed on me. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for forgiving me of my rebellion against God's commands (sin) and reconciling me to God, so I can know, worship, and honor the only true God—my true King.
Lord, as primary voting opens, please help me choose to trust you foremost. Help me see through politicians who honor you only as far as it benefits their ideology. Lord, don't let me get so caught up in the voting process that I fail to consider the great things you have done for me. Lord, today I pledge to promote Jesus as Lord of my life and faithfully worship Him. Lord, remind me to pray for the salvation of those with whom I disagree. I pray for local and national elected officials to be more concerned about fearing and worshipping You than allegiance to political intrigues.
I know we will always have politicians. I pray for wisdom to choose those who choose to obey You. Lord, please help me continually reflect upon Your goodness toward those who love and trust you. Let all the political ads remind me to tell others of my God's greatness, what You have done for me, and what You will do for whoever believes in Jesus. Lord, I pray for our leaders.
I pray our leaders will pause and reflect on the blessings You have bestowed on us by saving us from hell, delivering us from the power and deception of sin, and understanding Your commands and their truth. Lord, forever keep me active on Your campaign team. In Jesus' name, amen.
