Psalm 112:1 CSB "Hallelujah! Happy is the person who fears the LORD, taking great delight in his commands."
Hallelujah means to praise or boast in the Lord. The Apostle Paul reminds us: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8–9, NASB95). Hallelujah Friday is the day we refuse to say look what I have done this week, but let me tell you what God has done for me. Paul also says, "But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world" (Galatians 6:14). The person who respects (fears) the Lord and boasts about the Bible bringing truth into their daily life is happy. I find what Brooks and Dunn sang more true today than last Friday:
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth
In the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life
Than just what I can see, oh I believe
Happy is the person who boasts of God's work in his daily life and explains why he delights in reading and obeying the Bible.
Dear Gracious Heavenly Father, It's Hallelujah Friday. I happily praise You for Your Word at work in my life. I raise my hands and bow my head. I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in the Bible. They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see. I find the One who believes in the Bible discovers,
"His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.
Light arises in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious and compassionate and righteous.
It is well with the man who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment.
For he will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever.
He will not fear evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
His heart is upheld, he will not fear, Until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries.
He has given freely to the poor, His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted in honor.
The wicked will see it and be vexed (angry), He will gnash his teeth and melt away; The desire of the wicked will perish" (Psalm 112:2–10).
Lord Jesus, "great are the works of the Lord; they are studied by all who delight in them (Psalm 11:2). Your work on my and my family's behalf resulted in all the good we enjoyed this week. In Jesus' name, I praise You and delight in Your words and works, Amen.
