For hundreds of years, God’s people demonstrate faith by their confidence that His promises will be revealed. God is faithful and good and does what He says He will do.
But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself
Galatians 5:22–23a (NIrV)
Wonder About It
What is one thing you’re curious about from this week’s part of God’s big story?
How can you live differently or respond to God with what you’re learning?
Family Conversations
Families, use this to prompt conversations at the table, in the car, and anywhere else your family experiences life together.
What does it mean to have faith?
What are some things you believe but can’t see?
Does having faith matter? Why or why not?
Is it harder to have faith when we can’t see what is happening or don’t know what God is doing? Why or why not?
If we could make a list of all the ways God has been faithful and good, what would be on our list?
Hands On!
Growing Faith
Kids love to watch things grow! Give your kids a front row seat to Hebrews 11:1 by planting a seed and waiting for it to grow. Give kids a small disposable cup and fill it 3/4 full of soil. Have kids make a small hole in the center of the dirt with their fingers. Place any flower seed (or a lima bean seed, which grows quickly) in the hole and cover it with soil. Add a small amount of water to the soil and place it in a sunny place in your house. Discuss the following questions:
How long do you think it will take before we see the seed come up through the soil? For extra fun, jot down their guesses on their cups with a permanent marker and have kids tally the number of days it takes for growth to be visible.
What must happen for your seed to grow?
What are some things you can do to grow your faith in God?
Do growing seeds and growing your faith in God happen quickly? Why or why not?
Life Connection
Lighten the Load
What is more meaningful to a kid than to hear stories from parents or grandparents about things that happened when their parents or grandparents were kids?
Give kids two pieces of colored construction paper. Have them place the pieces together and fold them down the middle to make a book. Secure the book by stapling the binding together. Help kids create the front page of their book using crayons or colored pencils, using this title: My Family Faith Story.
For each page of the book, have kids think of one person in their family (mom, dad, grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc.) to interview. Once decided, write that person’s name on the top of a page. Kids can call, video chat, or even go visit the family members that are in their book. Have kids ask each family member: Tell me a story of when God was faithful to you. Kids will illustrate or transcribe the story in their books. Read the books together and thank God for His faithfulness and goodness to your family
